Question

Wegovy storage: fridge, room temperature and travel limits by device

The answer depends on which Wegovy you have. Here is the US label's rule for each device, what to do if it froze or got hot, and how to travel with it.

The short answer

Wegovy injections should be refrigerated, but the label allows a single-dose pen or syringe to be kept between 46°F and 86°F for up to 28 days before the cap is removed. The FlexTouch pen can stay at room temperature for 56 days after first use. Wegovy tablets don't need refrigeration. No form may be frozen.

Key takeaways

  • Single-dose pen or syringe: keep it in the fridge at 36–46°F; if needed, it can stay at 46–86°F for up to 28 days before the cap comes off.
  • FlexTouch pen (four weekly doses): fridge before first use, then 56 days at 59–86°F or in the fridge.
  • Wegovy tablets: room temperature, 68–77°F, in the original bottle, away from moisture.
  • Never freeze any Wegovy, and don't use one that has been frozen.

Yes, if you have a Wegovy pen or syringe; no, if you have the pill. Wegovy comes in four forms, and the US prescribing information gives each one its own storage rule [1]. The rules below are from the current label, dated June 2026. For what Wegovy is and who it's for, see our Wegovy guide.

Each of Wegovy's four forms has its own storage rule

Check your carton. Wegovy injection comes as a single-dose pen (including the higher-dose Wegovy HD pen), a single-dose prefilled syringe, or a FlexTouch pen that holds four weekly doses. Wegovy tablets come in a bottle of 30 [1].

Wegovy prescribing information §16, Medication Guide and Instructions for Use, DailyMed version 19, June 2026. Light and heat above 86°F also damage the injection.

A single-dose pen can be out of the fridge for up to 28 days, as long as the cap stays on

If needed, prior to the pen or syringe cap removal, the pen can be kept from 8°C to 30°C (46°F to 86°F) up to 28 days.[1]

Two conditions sit inside that sentence. The cap must still be on, and the temperature must stay at or below 86°F. The label also says the pen must stay in its original carton until you use it, to protect it from light [1].

The Medication Guide spells out when to throw a single-dose pen or syringe away: if it has been frozen, exposed to light or to temperatures above 86°F, or out of the refrigerator for 28 days or longer [1]. The syringe instructions add a practical step: write down the date you took it out of the fridge.

After first use, a FlexTouch pen can stay at room temperature or in the fridge for 56 days

After first use, WEGOVY FlexTouch single-patient-use pen can be stored for 56 days between 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F) or in a refrigerator 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F).[1]

Before that first use, FlexTouch belongs in the fridge. Afterward, the label asks you to keep the cap on, protect the pen from excessive heat and light, and store it without a needle attached. Throw it away 56 days after first use, or sooner if it froze or got hotter than 86°F [1].

Wegovy tablets never go in the fridge

The pills are stored at room temperature, 68–77°F, with short excursions to 59–86°F allowed. Keep them in the original bottle until you take one, and keep that bottle somewhere dry, because the tablets need protection from moisture [1]. A pill organizer doesn't meet that rule. For how the pill compares with the shot, see oral semaglutide.

Don't use Wegovy that froze or got hot; ask the pharmacy for a replacement

Do not freeze WEGOVY and do not use if it has been frozen.[1]

The label also says not to store Wegovy directly next to the refrigerator's cooling element, where it can freeze without the rest of the fridge doing so [1]. For heat, the limit is 86°F. The label's rule is about where the pen has been, not how it looks afterward.

Shipping is where many problems start. FDA advises patients not to use any injectable GLP-1 drug that arrives warm or without enough refrigeration, because that can affect the drug's quality [3]. If a delivery arrives warm, call the pharmacy before using it.

The same limits apply on the road: under 86°F, cap on, never frozen

The label has no travel section, so its storage limits are the travel rules. A single-dose pen or syringe can come with you for up to 28 days at or below 86°F, cap on, in its carton. A FlexTouch already in use has its 56-day window. A parked car or a sunny windowsill can push a pen past 86°F, so plan where it will sit.

For flights, TSA allows larger amounts of medically necessary liquids "in reasonable quantities for your trip," as long as you declare them at the checkpoint [4]. The officer at the checkpoint makes the final call. Keeping Wegovy in your carry-on means it stays with you, where you can keep it in its carton and out of the heat.

Ozempic prescribing information, DailyMed version 20, June 2026. FDA's Concerns with Unapproved GLP-1 Drugs.

Ozempic's rules sit in its own label [2]. Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved, and FDA does not check its safety, effectiveness or quality before it ships [3]. Its storage is set by the pharmacy that makes it, and FDA's general advice is not to keep using a multi-dose vial past 28 days after first use, even if the pharmacy's label says longer [3]. The full rules are in compounded semaglutide storage, and the tirzepatide version is in how long compounded tirzepatide can be out of the fridge.

Storage is only one part of using Wegovy well. For side effects and how long they last, see Wegovy side effects; for Ozempic's safety record, see is Ozempic safe?

Frequently asked

Can Wegovy be left out overnight?
Yes, a single-dose pen or syringe can be, as long as the cap is still on and the room stays at or below 86°F. The label allows up to 28 days at 46–86°F. A night counts toward that 28 days.
Does Wegovy go bad if not refrigerated?
Outside the label's limits, yes: throw it away if it has been above 86°F, frozen, exposed to light, or out of the fridge for 28 days or longer (single-dose pen or syringe). Ask your pharmacist if you're unsure.
How long does Wegovy last in the fridge?
The label sets no separate in-fridge time limit for an unopened pen or syringe. Use it before the expiration date printed on the carton. A FlexTouch pen is thrown away 56 days after first use, wherever you keep it.
Can I put Wegovy back in the fridge after it was out?
The label doesn't address moving it back. It says a single-dose pen or syringe can be kept at 46–86°F for up to 28 days, and the Medication Guide says to throw it away once it has been out of the refrigerator for 28 days or longer. Ask your pharmacist how to count the time.
Can you stop Wegovy cold turkey?
The label gives no tapering schedule, so stopping is a conversation with your prescriber. In the STEP 1 trial extension, people who stopped semaglutide 2.4 mg regained about two-thirds of the weight they had lost within a year.
