Our take on Hone Health

Hone Health is a lab-first telehealth service for hormones, metabolism and longevity, and it prescribes metformin for healthy aging. That use is off-label: metformin is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes, not for slowing aging, and the metformin and longevity guide covers what the evidence does and doesn't show. The medication itself is priced low on the product page, but every Hone prescription needs a paid membership, and the page says so in small type ("+ membership"). On the Basic tier, the real cost is $50 a month by our math, medication and membership together.

Everything starts with blood work. You buy a biomarker test covering 50 or more markers at a partner lab, then a licensed physician reviews the results with you. On Basic, that consult is optional and costs extra, and care runs mostly through messaging; Premium includes a private video consult and retests every three months instead of every six. Hone names the physician-owned medical groups that provide care, collectively Broad Health, and lists several of its doctors by name. Its help center adds that metformin users may need additional labs, without printing that price.

For weight care, Hone doesn't sell semaglutide or tirzepatide. Its GLP-1 is compounded liraglutide, a daily injection that requires the Premium membership, which puts the all-in cost at $315 a month by our math at the lowest dose. The page says "From", so higher doses cost more. If you want a weekly GLP-1, the liraglutide guide explains how it compares, and programs on the compounded semaglutide lineup sell the weekly options.

The membership rules are the part to read twice. Hone's FAQ calls the membership month-to-month and says you can cancel anytime, while its help center describes it as an annual clinical program billed in monthly installments, with fees already paid not refunded. Its terms say subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel by phone, email or the online link. Hone doesn't name the pharmacies that fill its prescriptions, and you can ask to send a prescription to a pharmacy of your choice. Compare metformin programs on the metformin and rapamycin lineup.

What Hone Health costs

Hone Health prices by product · Billing: Monthly
ProductReal monthly cost
Compounded liraglutideInjection$315/mo
MetforminOral$50/mo

Prices are taken from Hone Health's own site and current as of this update. Real monthly cost folds in required fees and turns four-week billing into calendar months; that's our math.

Compounded liraglutide skips FDA approval: no one at the FDA judges whether it is safe, whether it works, or how well it was made before a pharmacy sends it out.

What signing up looks like

  1. Book a biomarker test

Buy Hone's blood test covering 50 or more markers and get your draw at a partner lab location.

  2. A physician reviews your labs

A licensed physician from Hone's medical groups reviews your results. Basic members can add a paid video consult; Premium includes one.

  3. A partner pharmacy fills it

If metformin is prescribed, a pharmacy in Hone's network fills it, or you can send the prescription to your own pharmacy.

  4. Retest and adjust

Your membership includes repeat labs, every six months on Basic and every three on Premium, with messaging to your care team.

Who prescribes, and the pharmacy

Licensed physicians from the physician-owned medical groups Hone names in its terms, collectively called Broad Health, review labs and prescribe, by message or private video depending on the tier. Hone says a network of pharmacies fills prescriptions and that you may choose your own pharmacy, but it doesn't name any.

Where Hone Health does well

  • Metformin and its required Basic membership are both priced on public pages, so the monthly total is clear.
  • Lab work is part of the plan, with retests every six months on Basic and every three on Premium.
  • Names the physician-owned medical groups behind its care and shows several of its doctors.
  • Pairs metformin with a wider longevity and hormone menu under one membership.
  • You can ask Hone to send any prescription to the pharmacy of your choice.

What to check first

  • Product cards show the drug price; a monthly membership is always added. Budget for both together.
  • Metformin for aging is off-label. Ask your physician what your labs show before you start.
  • Its FAQ says cancel anytime, but the help center calls it an annual program. Ask how canceling works first.
  • Membership fees already paid aren't refunded. Cancel before the next billing date if you want out.
  • Its only GLP-1 is daily liraglutide on the costlier Premium tier. Look elsewhere for weekly options.

It fits you if

You want metformin for healthy aging with lab tracking built in, and you like having hormone and longevity care under one membership.

Look elsewhere if

You want a weekly GLP-1 such as semaglutide or tirzepatide, a price with no membership on top, or a program that names its pharmacy.
