Sesame review

The short answer: Sesame bills its care fee apart from the brand-name GLP-1 pill or shot, and its own pages disagree on how often that fee bills. Confirm the total at checkout.

Our take on Sesame

Sesame works differently from most GLP-1 programs. You pay for care and medication separately. The care is a subscription called Success by Sesame, and the drug is a brand-name GLP-1 that your own pharmacy fills at Sesame's published self-pay price. Sesame prints the self-pay drug price for each dose, so the starting dose of Foundayo or the Wegovy pill is the low end and higher doses cost more. Your real monthly cost is that drug price plus the program fee. The orforglipron guide explains Foundayo, the newer pill.

The "as low as" program price in Sesame's ads is the annual plan, paid up front. Month to month, its FAQ says the fee bills every 28 days, which is 13 charges a year, while another answer on the same page calls it monthly. Check the billing date on your first invoice. Brand shots cost more than the pills, and Wegovy and Ozempic injections start at a lower intro price for two months before the standing price applies. The GLP-1 pill lineup compares the pill route across programs.

What the fee buys is real care. You pick your own provider, meet by video, and keep unlimited messaging and follow-up visits. Lab work at Quest is included, except in nine states, including New York and New Jersey, where you pay the lab yourself. Sesame also lets you use insurance for the medication, which most cash-pay programs don't.

There are trade-offs. Sesame doesn't prescribe compounded GLP-1s at all, so there's no lower-cost compounded option. It doesn't publish the states it serves, and you'll need to create an account before you see a state or plan screen. And because your pharmacy fills the prescription, Sesame doesn't name one. For some people that's the point: same-day pickup at the pharmacy you already use.

What signing up looks like

  1. Answer a short questionnaire

Share your goals and health basics online, then create an account and choose a provider.

  2. Meet your provider by video

Your provider reviews your history in a video visit, tailors a plan and orders labs if needed.

  3. Fill it at your pharmacy

If prescribed, the medication goes to your preferred local pharmacy for same-day pickup, or to home delivery.

  4. Stay in touch

Ongoing video visits, unlimited messaging and tracking tools come with the subscription.

Who prescribes, and the pharmacy

Prescriptions come from independent, board-certified providers in their own practices who list visits on Sesame, which says it doesn't practice medicine; you choose the provider and meet by video. Medication goes to the pharmacy you pick or to home delivery, so Sesame doesn't name a dispensing pharmacy. It prescribes brand-name drugs only and says compounded semaglutide isn't available.

Where Sesame does well

  • You choose your own provider and meet by video, with unlimited messaging and follow-ups in the subscription.
  • Quest lab work is included in the program fee in most states.
  • Prints self-pay prices by dose for Foundayo, the Wegovy pill, Wegovy, Ozempic and Zepbound.
  • Prescriptions go to your own pharmacy for same-day pickup, or home delivery.
  • Accepts insurance for the medication, and refunds the first fee if you cancel 3 hours before the visit.

What to check first

  • The program fee is on top of the drug price. Add both before you compare Sesame with all-in programs.
  • The low program price needs a 12-month plan. Budget by the month-to-month fee unless you'll stay a year.
  • Its FAQ says the monthly fee bills every 28 days but also calls it monthly. Check the date on your first bill.
  • Labs aren't covered in nine states, including New York and New Jersey. Ask for the lab price if you live there.
  • No compounded GLP-1s. If you need a lower monthly cost, look at compounded programs instead.

It fits you if

You want a brand-name GLP-1 pill or shot with a provider you pick, video visits, labs included and pickup at your usual pharmacy.

Look elsewhere if

You want compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide, one all-in monthly price, or a published state list before you sign up.

Questions about Sesame

How much does Sesame cost for a GLP-1 pill?
Add two prices: the self-pay drug price Sesame prints for your dose, and the program fee. Its pages describe the fee's billing two ways, so confirm the first charge at checkout. Higher doses cost more.
Is medication included in the Sesame subscription?
No. The Success by Sesame fee covers visits, messaging and most lab work. The medication is paid separately at your pharmacy.
Does Sesame offer compounded semaglutide?
No. Sesame says compounded semaglutide isn't available through its program; providers prescribe brand-name GLP-1s.
Can I use insurance with Sesame?
For the medication, yes, if your plan covers it. The program fee itself isn't billed to insurance.
What is Sesame's refund policy?
Cancel at least 3 hours before your first visit for a full refund. After that visit, the first month isn't refunded, and you can cancel before the next billing cycle.

  • Drug guideFoundayo (orforglipron): the daily GLP-1 pill, explained

Foundayo is orforglipron, a once-daily GLP-1 pill from Eli Lilly that FDA approved on April 1, 2026 for weight management in adults. It's a different molecule from semaglutide and tirzepatide. The label says to take it with or without food. In its main trial, the top dose produced 11.2% average weight loss at 72 weeks.

  • Side by sideIs Foundayo as effective as Zepbound? What the trials show

Both come from Eli Lilly, but they're different molecules in different forms. Zepbound produced about twice the average weight loss in its trial. Foundayo costs less, is a pill with no food rules, and may help hold on to weight lost on an injection.

  • Drug guideOral semaglutide: the three approved pills and how they differ

Oral semaglutide is the active ingredient of Ozempic and Wegovy in a daily tablet. The FDA approved the Wegovy pill for weight reduction on December 22, 2025; Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets treat type 2 diabetes. In its 64-week trial, the 25 mg Wegovy pill cut weight 13.6% vs 2.2% on placebo. Self-pay through NovoCare runs $149–$299 a month.
